  1. Hi Alfonso,
I bought your application yesterday. I've been looking for a while for an aplication like this. I've been using a PalmOs app called HDebts which does pretty much the same things, even if it's much more complete. I think your app has some potential though, so I decided to support your development buying it at this early stage. I have some advices for your app to make it more functional. I hope you find time to implement these.

First of all I found a bug (already reported via AppStore) regarding the decimal separator. Here in Italy we use the comma so when I enter 11.0 it comes up with 1.100,00.

Next thing would be to be able to select the description of a bill from a list (editable, linked to the event)-

It would be very important to add an export method, whatever it is, but in some way I need to have the data copied to my computer.

It would also be nice to be able di duplicate an event (so I already have all persons and bill descriptions set up).

That's it for now, hope to here from you soon with some updates!

  2. Hi Andrea,
Thanks for downloading it! I just submitted an update to the app, though it does not cover any of you suggestions. I do want to update it with your suggestions though, I just need some clarification on these:

    - For the decimal separator bug, do you mean that $1,100.00 in the USA would be €1.100,00 (just figuratively, not by exchange rate...)? I still have to implement localization for my app so hopefully soon I can get to that...

    - By description of a bill, do you mean the comments section? Do you mean have a list, just like the list that has the names of the bills, but instead have the comments?

    - I have thought about the export method, I still have to figure that out. Its in my plans...

    - I can add the functionality of duplicating an already made event. I'll look into it.

    Thanks again!

  3. Hey Alfonso,
here are the clarification you are asking:
1 - to figure out the localization just check the international formats on your mac (from system prefs). Anyway, yes, in italy we would write 1.000,00 even though the dot is often not used.

2 - I meant the Bill Name (first on top when you enter a new bill) Most of the bills repeat themselves during a vacation (like "lunch" "dinner" "Fuel") It would be nice to be able to have a list with the most common and enter manually only a few bills.

thank you, I'm looking forward to test the new release.

  4. Hey Andrea,
Cool, I understand now. I'll try to implement them as soon as I can.

    Thanks a lot!

  5. Fonz, I like this idea. I've been in this situation before with my family and watched as it took my sister and two of my aunts over a half hour to try and figure out who owed who how much. This would have been helpful (although, I did eventually break out my math skills and have it all sorted out in 5 minutes, but not as many people are as smart as me, you know).

  6. Alex,
Yeah dude, thanks! I will add more features as soon as I have more time.

  7. Alfonso,

I've been looking for an app like this since apps came out for the iPhone! Like Andrea, I also used HDebts and found it to be an amazing tool, especially when traveling, so I really wanted something like that and it looks like your tool fits the bill nicely.

One feature I would like to see is support for multiple currencies. When traveling, you don't always pay everything in the same currency, and that complicates things. My workaround for your app is to actually setup separate events for each currency, but you can see how that's a hassle.

I also agree with Andrea that it'd be good to see previously recorded Bill Names getting added in some list so that I don't have to add them again.

    Keep up the good work!

  8. Rolando,

    Thanks for downloading it!

I agree with the currency difference, it is a hassle to setup different events. I will try to look for a way to fix this.

I will look into setting up some sort of history list of previous bill names, so you can select from it. It should not be too hard.

    Thanks!

  9. great app!
    One thought though.
How about enabling it to sync with others lists. So, my roommates list will always be updated with my list. If he adds a bill it will pop up on mine and vice versa. That would make things MUCH easier!
    Keep up the good work!

  10. Yes, that is a great idea! I will add it to the list. I will implement all these features as time goes. Thanks for your support!

  11. Hi!

Nice app, but I also have problems with the localization in germany. Could you please fix it? Moreover could you please add email-support to mail the calculation to my buddies?

    Tia

    Greetings from germany

  12. Tia,

Is the localization problem you are having the same as the one mentioned by Andrea in the previous post above? If it is, I'm already working on it, otherwise let me know what kind of errors you are getting (be specific).
For the email support, I have that on my list of features to add. Its on the pipeline...

Thanks and I appreciate your comments!

  13. hi Alfonso,

you understand andrea from the first post wrong.

i use the app under a german settings, but they are similar to italy.

if i set the price of a bill to exactly

    0011.00
    then it comes to
    1100.00

    0000.01
    then it comes to
    0001.00

that means that everytime a value is stored as 100times more.

i think this comes from the i18n settings. maybe you give back a value as "0011.00" but in german settings the "." means thousand separator and thatswhy it is ignored and parsed as "001100".

as you see it is not only a cosmetic thing of displaying values as "1.000,00" or "1,000.00" but a big bug for non us currency format (because everytime 100x bigger values are calculated)

instead of the eyecandy with this scrollentry i would prefer a classic calculator entry of a value is better.

  14. Ah! I understand now. I checked it and I see where the problem is. I will fix it and submit an update. Unfortunately, I just submitted and update but I will try to fix it as soon as I can.

About the changing the picker to a calculator style, I will consider it but I might put it off to later since I have other features to implement first.

Thanks for clarifying that for me! I really appreciate it!

  16. Hi
Bought the application a few hours ago, I now have questions about it - bugs and suggestions. Should I submit them here or could you email me directly ?
    Thanks.

  17. Hi

Here are 2 issues I faced:
    - On my very first opening up of the application, when first trying to add a receipt picture to an expense, my IPhone totally froze and would not react to any button. Happened a few times in one year before your application was installed but very rare.
    - On accessing it again, at one point when switchting between users, the application just crashed and I was back to my main screen, Slipcost was shut down.
Unfortunaly unlike a PC I cannot provide screenshots nor log files so not sure how I could provide useful elements for you to debug if there is a need to.

    Regards.

  18. Hi! Do you plan to release a new version in the near future? It´s still unusable in germany...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes. Klaus, if you are talking about the issue with the amount showing incorrectly after selecting it in the picker/selector, the fix is under review by apple right now and it should be out soon. I also fixed the crash when the first receipt image is taken with the camera. Sorry I took too long...

  20. Can I send reports via email?

  22. Hello.
As many others here, I used to use HDebts on PalmOS.
On of the great features was this one:
When creating the persons, we could affect them a coeeficient. For instance, a single person had a coefficient of 1, and a family could have a coefficient of 2 or 3 or even more. This way, the application knew automatically how to split the bill between the different persons, without selecting "equal splitting" or entering manually any aother amount than the bill itself.
Do you plan to make this feature available?
    May I help you also?
    Thanks.

  23. I might incorporate this feature but I am still undecided. I will consider it. Thanks for the feedback!

  24. Hello! What is the possibility of getting it to sync with a server or something. It has happened several times that I had to do a restore on my iPhone and I lose several of my objects in splitCost. With a server it would also be possible to sync it back to other devices with push. That would mean that me and my friend would always have the correct flow of our spendings together.
And one more thing. I have my regionformat on my iPhone set to Norwegian which makes the prices come up as NOK, but I live in Florida and I enter in USD. So if I put in 30 USD it shows up as 30 NOK which is wrong..
    Great work by the way!

  25. Hi Erik, I would like to add this feature of having a server in the background to sync the data with so in case of a restore, you can get your data back. I will think about it, but in reality I don't know if I will have it or not. Economically is not feasible for me to have a server running on the background since I'm really not making any money of this app, but I'll consider it. For sync with other iPhones, I definetely want to add this. It will prob be a sync through wifi or Bluetooth. As for the currency problem, maybe I can have the user specify what currency they want instead of going by the region set. Thanks!

  26. Hi there. I like the app. I needed something like this for vacation, found it in the app store and downloaded it right away.

Is there an option to enter amounts by pressing buttons instead of using the dial? The dial really slows me down.

    Thanks.

  27. I will try to add that option in the next couple of weeks... I have some other projects Im working on + full time job.

  28. Hello Alfonso,
I have checked many similar apps and bought this one, as it is fast to use as information already stored in the phone can be easily inserted. But we need badly one feature. To share/email the either the result, or the details of the bills in pdf which can be emailed or on the computer printed. Then it will be the best as the interface is very intuitive.
    Thanks for the effort.

  29. Hello, I haven't bought the app yet, cause I'm wondering if it is still under development? For example I saw a request for emailing the results of the splitting process first come up about a year ago and have not seen it as a feature.
Also is it possible to add expenses for which multiple people are paying?
    Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  30. slozi, I apologize I have not added that feature. I been very busy at work and with other projects, but I will try to get it in the next month or so.
Carsten, The app is not under development, it works fully but the emailing of results to people is a feature I havent had time to implement. No, only expenses were there is one payee is supported at the moment.
Thanks for your comments and I'll try to get these features in as soon as possible.

  31. Is there any way to backup the data, perhaps during sync?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Data cannot be backed up at this time. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Do you anticipate adding some ability to backup? Or send the info to other iPhones?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hi Alfonso
This app looks very good and I'm thinking about getting it to organize the expenses here at home. However, I'd like to do it on the iPad and not on the iPhone. Do you have any plans to create an iPad version of the app?
Is the option of emailing the result of the calculations already implemented?

    Thanks for your time.

  35. Hi,

I just purchased this app, since we are planning a trip abroad.

And after purchasing, I read the comments above.

    Bugs:

The application freezes on Camera when selecting 'Take Picture of Receipt'.

On adding a test event and typing the custom names of the people, and editing the same as soon as adding it, results in the Name not being selected properly, for e.g. I added user1 user2 user3, when trying to edit user3 it shows as new user input.

    Requests:
    =========
    1) Export & Import with Bills (this will result to more sale of your app, since I can export the trip records to participants and they can import and check / settle)
    2) Emailing Settlement with bills.
    3) Multiple Payees
    4) Specifiable currency per event.
    5) Bill Date & Current Time
    6) Take 'Split Bill Equally?' values as per last entry for that event.

Thanks in anticipation of your updates.

    Best regards,
    Devang

  36. hi alfonso, i would like inform you about a bug:
in the event options settle ..... you see the total amount and who owes who and the calculated amount. unfortunatelly the amounts are cutted ex: chf 1'3... or chf 331...

if you submit an email adress i would send you a screenshot

the possibility to zoom or to flip the screen would be very useful.

    kind regards from switzerland
    edi

  37. Hi Alfonso,
I have used the app but when I want to settle the event I cannot see who owes who. I used the contacts from my telephone and because this is first and last name the text is to long so you only see that for instance peter pan owes and then not the other persons name. Can you advise me how to see the full length text?
